Kykuit the Rockefeller Estate is a Beautiful Home and Gardens Museum in New York

Kykuit is the name of the Rockefeller Estate located on the heights above the Hudson River north of NYC. Kykuit is open to the public for tours.

Kykuit is the name of the John D. Rockefeller Estate located at 200 Lake Road in the hamlet of Pocantico Hills in Mt. Pleasant, New York along the Hudson River about 25 miles north of New York City. Kykuit is a Dutch word which roughly means "lookout" and from the Rockefeller Estate on a height above the Hudson River one can see great views of the Hudson River Valley to the north and all the way to the New York City skyline in the south.

Kykuit was built from 1907 to 1913 for the oil millionaire tycoons John D. Rockefeller, Sr. and his son John D. Rockefeller, Jr. The main residence at Kykuit is built from stone in Classic Revival Georgian architectural style and contains six floors.

There are many other buildings and residences in Kykuit or the Rockefeller Estate and a number of Rockefellers still live on the estate but when former New York State Governor Nelson Rockefeller died in 1979 he left his share of Kykuit to the Nationla Trust for Historic Preservation. So parts of Kykuit are open today to the public for tours.

Here is a list of tours available at Kykuit and a quick rundown of what each tour includes. Please note the only tours that are wheelchair accessible are the Classic and Timesaver Tours. The gardens at Kykuit are terraced and contain steps and the main building does not have elevator service to the second floor so any tour that goes to the second floor or the gardens is not wheelchair accessible.
