Prometheus

Prometheus is a large gilded bronze sculpture prominently located in a fountain right behind the skating rink in Central Park in New York City. The statue depicts Prometheus the Titan brother of Atlas in Greek Mythology famously bringing fire to mankind. Prometheus was sculpted by American artist Paul Manship in 1933 and is one of the most beautiful, famous and monumental sculptures not only in New York City but in the United States and the world as well.

Wall Street Bull

The Wall Street Bull is an 11 foot high, 16 foot long bronze sculpture of a charging bull that is located at the northern end of Bowling Green Park in Lower Manhattan near Wall Street. The bull statue was sculpted by Italian-American artist Arturo Di Modica who illegally placed it in front of the New York Stock Exchange in 1989. The bull instantly drew crowds and people loved it but the city of New York seized it and impounded it. However the outcry from people was so loud the city quickly placed the Wall Street Bull in its present location where it is a huge tourist attraction and a monumental Wall Street icon.

Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is a 151 foot high copper statue that sits on top of a 305 foot high pedestal on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. The statue is an enduring symbol of New York City and the United States and is the most famous statue in the world today. Some 3.2 million people visit the Statue of Liberty every year.

Atlas

Atlas is a bronze sculpture of the Titan Atlas who held up the world on his shoulders in Greek Mythology. The statue of Atlas itself is 15 feet high holding up a 21 foot high open bronze globe all standing on a 9 foot pedestal for a total height of 45 feet. Atlas was created by American artist and sculptor Lee Lawrie in 1937 and is located right in front of Rockefeller Center in Midtown Manhattan.

King Jagiello Monument

The King Jagiello Monument is a bronze sculpture by Polish artist and sculptor Stanislaw Ostrowski depicting Lithuanian Grand Duke and Polish King Jagiello who united Lithuania and Poland in the early 1400's. The statue shows King Jagiello mounted on his horse and crossing the swords of his adversaries the Teutonic Knights of the Cross over his head in victory after they surrendered the swords to him in defeat at the Battle of Grunewald in 1410. The King Jagiello Monument is located in Central Park across from Belvedere Castle at the east end of Turtle Pond.

Balto

Balto is a bronze statue sculpted by American artist Frederick Roth in 1925 to honor the most famous dog in the world - Balto, the Siberian Husky sled dog that lead the final leg of the diphtheria serum run to Nome, Alaska in early 1925. The statue sits on a natural rock along one of the main paths in Central Park and Balto himself was present when the statue was unveiled in 1925. This is probably the most popular statue in Central Park.
